The map is a map of 1:4 million ice and snow permafrost in China compiled by Mr. Shi Yafeng and Mr. Mi Desheng. The working map is the Pinyin version of the people's Republic of China. The water system and mountain range notes of the map are preserved, and some mountain notes are added. The compilation of permafrost map is based on the actual data of permafrost investigation and exploration, the interpretation of remote sensing data, the temperature conditions and topographic characteristics that affect the formation and distribution of permafrost. The snow line height of glacier shows its changing trend with isoline. According to the data of 1600 meteorological observation stations in China and the results of many years' investigation, the seasonal snow and seasonal ice are represented by isoline mark and symbol, and the selection of cold growing (ice edge) phenomenon is representative and given a schematic representation through field observation. The boundaries between permafrost and non permafrost are calculated and mapped according to the field investigation data, which is highly comprehensive (tepfel, 1982)
The map of ice and snow permafrost in China reflects the scale, type and characteristics of glacier, snow, frozen soil and ice margin distribution, as well as the value in scientific research and the prospect of utilization and prevention in production practice. It shows our achievements in the research of glaciers and permafrost in the past 30 years.
